Timbersavvy is a consultancy service for construction and engineering industries. Having retired from the management of a successful south-west based timber importer, I have been asked many times to provide guidance on timber specification to architects and companies carrying out timber projects.

With over forty years experience in a wide range of hardwoods and softwoods, my service to clients is to provide recommendations and guidance at the early stages of a project, to minimise waste and costs.

As you may be aware, species of timber from various parts of the world have differing grades and end-use, unique nominal sizes, numerous finished size options and may have choice of grade. Misunderstanding of all the options can lead to impractical or ambiguous specifications being presented and either incur unnecessary extra cost or referral delays, possibly even disputes.

Timbersavvy can work with your staff to advise on the most economic specifications and availability. To provide your clients with additional specialist verification carried out on projects by your business, before they are examined by carpenters or joinery contractors. If required, costing can be provided and suppliers identified very efficiently to simplify the Contractors pricing process.

At low cost, a project assessment can be made and the benefits of using Timbersavvy will be apparent. Our standard fee will be advised at the outset, during initial discussion. Probably a meeting at your office or the site would be advantageous, for which travel cost would not be chargeable unless beyond fifty miles from our office. The important aspect is that your clients can be sure the timber they approve, particularly hardwood or higher-grade softwoods, are specified and purchased in the most economic, and environmentally-sound way possible.

Additionally, we can attend sites when timber deliveries have taken place, ideally before use, and verify that the correct, grade, specie, sizes and moisture content has been supplied. We trust you will agree, it is better to have your retained, independent timber-person (Timbersavvy) check and report, if you are responsible for the projects and help resolve any question before installation.
